Batten Disease is a fatal genetic disorder that attacks children under the age of ten years old and destroys all of their motor functions, usually ultimately killing them before they reach age twenty. We wanted to make everyone aware of this because few people even know of it. The Coffee House Gypsies teamed up with DreamOneWorld.org of California (an organization that does tons of good stuff for people in need, look them up and find out more about them by visiting www.DreamOneWorld.org – these guys really do AMAZING work) and together they organized a concert/cut-a-thon/fundraiser for victims of the deadly disease. Erika Spaide – the only little girl in all South Florida with the disease – was at the show with her single mom (Kim) and her sister (Gina). There is currently no cure and no treatment for Batten Disease. All you can do is try to slow down the disease’s progress and make the child’s quality of life be as optimal as possible. We urge you to visit Little Erika Spaide at www.myspace.com/mommaspaide – the Spaide household accepts and appreciates any donations (which they use for Erika’s medical expenses). The CHG would like to thank Victor Kingsley (of the South Florida band “Kingsley”) for joining the Gypsies in this cause and jamming with the CHG for Little Erika. Erika could not move nor talk, but she certainly was smiling…..
