She is taught as a person of culture – the exact translation is ‘woman of art’. Geisha are taught how to dance, flower arrange and entertain very wealthy Japanese business men. Only after a number of years is a price negotiated for a Geisha’s virginity and the gentleman paying the price is able to have sex with her. Some geisha become very wealthy indeed.
