Our family is flying into Miami. We are going to rent a car & drive north up to Palm Beach Gardens. (We are unable to fly into Palm Beach airport, we have to fly into Miami). My question, is it safe to drive from the Miami airport up to Palm Beach Gardens? We are not hicks (we are from Chicago), but people hear horror stories about everywhere. We’ve heard stories that thugs can tell which cars are rental cars & might shoot at you, etc. Are the highways safe? Are their dangerous people lurking for tourists?
To the first two answerers, thanks for being such saracastic assholes.
Just like any city, Miami has some bad parts. Stay out of those parts and you’ll be fine. When leaving the airport, look for signs to 836. You can then either take it East and get on I-95 North or you can take 836 West and get on the Florida Turnpike. I don’t remember whether it’s listed as North or West at that point. Both routes will take you up to Palm Beach Gardens.
If you can fly into Fort Lauderdale, it’s closer.
We aren’t hicks either (we are from Miami), but paranoia on your part is good.
The drive from MIA to PBG will be fine, almost all expressway.
Unless you put a Chi Bears or Cubs banner on your rental.
Then you won’t make it far before someone shoots at you.

Depends on how fast you drive.

The two conditions are not mutually exclusive. You have proven that.

Yes. They are called Condominium time share salesmen.
