This is such a beautiful piece, and I really thought so until our director told us what it was about!
It’s still amazing though. I love the chimes part, that sounds like a bell tolling.

french horns becareful with your high A’s dont shoot over them and make sure they are in tune amazing piece played it this past year we got sweepstakes although i must say for all those french horns your sound does not progress through the entire band. work on the octave skips mainly the f sharps and the a to a and in the staff a to the above the staff a

    I don’t think I’ve …
I don’t think I’ve ever loved a piece as much as I’ve loved this one…except MAYBE October(Eric Whitacre). The high voices at measure 54, and the tenor sax/euphonium during the trumpets solo with their eighth note/triplet line, and the middle voices near the end with their sixteenth note run…they all give me more goosebumps that being cold. I love this song more than life itself

    we just started …
we just started playing this..i love it. the baritone/low reed solo at 3:06 is the coolest thing. i think they could have played it a lot more powerful though! the clarinets and flutes are beating the low brass!
and 3:41 clarinet/flute solo is beautiful. thats another great part.
but for some constructive criticism, this band really needs to work on balance and tuning. the solos are beautiful, but as i said, the high woodwinds are beating the low voices, and that shouldn’t be happening.

  15. thundersnake1 says:

    i knew it involved …
i knew it involved child abuse, you wouldnt think about that if you listened to the song without that knowledge.

omg, i totally agree with you. it seems like not enough know about this piece. it is the most powerful song i have ever played and wow i can’t even describe it. its just… perfect… i wish i could play it again…

  25. politicalbs123 says:

    No words to …
No words to describe this one….

Camphouse really mastered the art of switching back and forth between tense “gross” for lack of a better word, sounding keys and clusters, to some of the most beautiful resolutions and keys.

It’s a pity that this piece is not more well known. I think it is because it is hard to appreciate this piece until you play it. I have not met a person who has played this piece on any instrument and has not fallen in love with it. It’s just too powerful.
